We begin our trip in “Little Bavaria”. Two Frankenmuth, Michigan, restaurants are in fierce competition for the worlds best Chicken Dinners. This competition spreads throughout their menus, and benefits the diner with excellent food. We start our adventure sampling both establishments fare, first with our welcome dinner, and then lunch during our tour the next day. While in Frankenmuth we will visit the quaint Bavarian themed shops, stop at Bonners, the worlds biggest Christmas store, and cruise down the river on the Bavarian Belle.
We will head up to Mackinaw where will enjoy a campfire with our professional Guide and Storyteller as he tells us about the legends and lore of the Mackinaw Straits.
The next day we ferry over to the Mackinaw Island and the Grand Hotel for a superb Buffet Lunch. Here you will get a tour of the hotel, a carriage tour of the Island, (no motorized vehicles are allowed), and be able to tour the rest of the island, or Fort Mackinac on your own if you desire. You even get complimentary fudge!
From here we go to Sault Ste. Marie and the Soo Locks. A Dinner Cruise through the Locks and down Ste. Marys River high-light our stay here. You will be able to get up close and personal with some of the “salties” and “lakers” that frequent the locks system.
Newberry is our next location. Here we will be going to Tahquamenon Falls to tour, to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, Oswalds Bear Farm, and to Picture Rocks for a Cruise.
We cross in to Wisconsin from here, staying in Sturgeon Bay for 2 nights. Here we will tour Door County, visit the Maritime Museum, stop by the docks to see shipbuilding in progress, and end up at a “Fish Boil” Dinner. Our final destination will be Wisconsin Dells. Here we will enjoy a perfect ending to an already wonderful trip. We will spend a day at the totally unique House on the Rock, with its myriad of rooms full of collections, its Main Street, Carousel and other special attractions.
We end with a home-cooked Scandinavian meal, complete with Genuine Scandinavian Entertainment, as the family serenades us with song and dance. After our farewell Continental Breakfast, you will find that you are ideally located to continue on to some really great tourist locations.
