2010 Waterfall Tour

July 11-21, 2010 (New Dates)

Ontario

Come join us the week after the International Rally as we tour the Niagara Escarpment. It is recognized as one of the world's unique natural wonders. Essentially, it is a landform stretching 450 miles from Queenston on the Niagara River to Tobermory at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula. The Niagara Escarpment was created by ancient seas and is essentially a cliff that runs through Southern Ontario, for Niagara Falls to Tobermory and beyond. Not surprisingly,it is responsible for the numerous waterfalls. Any river or stream that originates above the escarpment and flows toward Lake Ontario or the Georgian Bay is going to fall off the escarpment at some point, resulting in a waterfall. The Bruce Trail follows the escarpment from Niagara Falls all the way to Tobermory and passes by dozens of waterfalls.
Plans are to start our tour in Hamilton, Ontario just west of Niagara Flls. Hamilton is known as the "City of Waterfalls". We'll visit some of these falls as well as some of the more interesting attractions in the Hamilton area. From there we'll travel north along the Escarpment. Information will be furnished on the waterfalls along the way. Some will be close, some may require a short drive off the main route or a hike if you prefer. We'l spend some time around Owen Sound located on the shores of the Georgian Bay. Tours of local attractions will be planned as well as information on self guided itineraries through the city and surrounding area.

Then we'll be on our way up to the Bruce Peninsula to Tobermory which lies at the tip of the peninsula separating Lake Huron and the Georgian Bay. It is considered a paradise by naturalists, photographers, divers, hikers, kayakers, golfers and art lovers. It offers a wide variety of outdoor activities and scenery that is absolutely breathtaking. While here we'll cruise through Fathom Five National Marine Park, take a glass bottom boat to Flowerpot Island and visit some of the many shipwrecks in the area. A side trip to beautiful Manitoulin Island offers a unique scenic region, where Native life and legend meld with European history to provide an unforgettable holiday experience. The island town of Manitowaning was the first Europena settlement, whilst Wikewemikong remains the only unceded Indian Reserve in Canada.
